Writing Prompt - Olympics 2012
http://www.london2012.com/
In exactly one year, the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics will take place. The athletes will have been training for years for this event but what about all the others involved?
The trainers and coaches - have they been here before with other athletes?
The families - how do they feel ? Are siblings jealous about the attention paid to the athlete in the family?
The judges - what are their qualifications? How do they feel with all the crowds? Radio Scotland’s Fred MacCauley had a Track and Field judge speaking today. Why not check it out on iplayer?
What about the athletes who almost made it? Zara Phillips qualified in 2008 but her horse was injured at the last minute. How would she, and others like her, feel as they watch 'their' sport?
The equipment - boats, bats, racquets, javelins, bows and arrows - who looks after them? Who made them?
What about the people who are building the stadium, the race track, the swimming arena - how do they feel about the games?
Who will clean up after the athletes?
There are hundreds of stories to be created with the backdrop of the Olympics and probably just as many non-fiction articles.
Pick a sport and find out as much as you can, looking at it from as many different angles as possible.
Get writing!
