First Summer Meeting
Eight of us met on Wednesday night for the first of our summer meetings and we had a very varied selection of texts to hear; science fiction, ghost stories, poetry, flash fiction, a children’s story, articles and woman’s stories.
I found it very helpful as I read out a piece to which I added a couple of hundred words only that afternoon (well, I had been busy which is no excuse, I know). It was only when I was reading it out that I realised that my style and even the genre was different from the original and that my seams were only too obvious.
Helena read out a poem she is working on while Maggie had a delightful children’s story with rhyming couplets in it; Greta has written a flash fiction piece and told a hilarious story about going to a wedding which had loads of potential to be turned into piece of barely disguised fiction or a humorous article; Wilma is working on a woman’s short story and Janice is midway through a ghost story and was looking for ideas as to how it should end; Fiona M produced her laptop to read out an article on her childhood and Fiona A thrilled us with her sci-fi story.
All in all, a very productive evening and we raised some funds for the club as well. And my husband’s comment was that we weren’t as rowdy as usual. Us? Rowdy?
