Club Successes so far

At the start of the year, I challenged our members to see how many could earn back their membership fees from their writing. Winning competitions and payment in kind would be included.

Haven’t we done well! Read on and admire!

Michael Malone’s crime novel, Blood Tears, is coming out in June 2012 and he has just had a non-fiction book, Carnegie Calls, accepted for publication by Argyll Publishing. On top of that, he has published 8 book reviews on crimesquad.com and has 4 poems in the Federation of Writers anthology.

Postal member Alice Muir has a two-book deal with Hodder Educational for the Teach Yourself imprint – Beat Stress and Overcoming Depression. She also has two articles in Stress News.

Marion Montgomery’s poetry collection, Lyart, was launched recently to great acclaim and one of the poems appeared in the Herald.

New member Tom McKerley’s book Bloodlines: Touch Not the Cat has just been published and is available in Waterstones.

Alison Craig has given poetry readings at Culzean and Callander and won the Booked! Poetry competition.

Sheila Grant has had articles on Marion’s book in the Kilmarnock Standard and Ayrshire Post as well as a book review in New Books magazine.

Greta Yorke has had an article and a poem, and Carolyn O’Hara an article, in Scottish Memories.

Frances Smith
and Maggie Bolton were winners in the Imprint Short Fiction competition and Frances also won 3rd place in the Write Place competition.

And Catherine Lang had a fiction piece, Nightfall, in Fankle, the Dumfries and Galloway New Writing magazine, while Uuganaa Ramsay wrote about her fairytale hero in Scottish Family Legends run by the Book Trust.

Congratulations to everyone and keep them coming!
Ann Burnett
